Summer Street Plaza sits right above Downtown Crossing station, at Washington and Summer Streets, which is served by the MBTA Orange and Red Lines. If you need the elevator, note that the MBTA says elevator 869, from the Alewife-bound Red Line platform to the Summer Street concourse, is closed for maintenance through Tuesday, December 1, 2026. Its posted detour uses elevators 998 or 999 and the 101 Arch Street elevator to reach the Summer Street concourse.

Downtown Crossing is easiest by the T, and the market itself has no parking. The closest large public garage with posted rates is the Boston Common Garage under the Common, at Zero Charles Street, about half a mile in a straight line from the stalls. In October 2026 it charged $14 for up to an hour, $20 for two hours and $26 for three, with a $14 rate if you reserve online.

The City of Boston's 85th annual Boston Common Tree Lighting, with the tree given each year by Nova Scotia, is on Thursday, December 3, 2026, from 6 to 8 pm near the Visitor Information Center at 139 Tremont Street, a few minutes' walk from Downtown Crossing. At about 8:15 pm the same night, the lights on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall in the Back Bay are switched on, from Arlington Street to Charlesgate.

Downtown Crossing is in the middle of central Boston, so the Financial District, Beacon Hill, Chinatown and the Theater District are all within a 10-minute walk, and Boston Common is next door. Staying anywhere on the Orange or Red Line puts you one ride away.
